7 Risk Factors of Falls in Home & Community Care !!

1. Activity 

Muscle weakness through lack of exercise or physical activity

 

2. Footwear& Clothing

Problems caused by unsuitable or poorly fitted clothing & footwear

 

3. Eyesight

Poor eyesight or using incorrect glasses/prescriptions resulting in poor vision.

 

4. Balance

Poor Balance which can cause difficulty in walking.

 

5. Medications

The side-effects of some medications or mix of medications may cause dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision, confusion etc..

 

6. Health Factors

Memory, arthritis, incontinence, Parkinson's disease, poor nutrition and lack of confidence (fear of falling).

 

7. Environment

Home Safety Hazards in and around the home & public places e.g. housework, stairs, steps etc..

 

Falls = Loss of Confidence = Reduction in physical activity = less able to get around = further risk of falling.
